The beauty of a mother anticipating the arrival of her child is like no other time I photograph. There is such a sense of elation and suspense; it’s absolutely the most serene of all my sessions. I usually shoot these sessions in my clients home because I feel that this is where it is most comfortable for them. It’s also wonderful for a couple to have images that show what their life was like at the time their baby came to be a part of their family. This is also particularly true if we’re going to do anything in less than a fully clothed state (that’s my PC way of saying naked). Cleveland weather is also a factor here so when the weather permits there’s something about being outside. Taking that natural beauty of a woman who’s ready to bring new life into the world and placing her in the heavenly outdoors can be simply awe-inspiring. All that being said, I really like to keep maternity sessions very simple and capture the moment in a way that allows the miracle to speak for itself. Pregnancy doesn’t require anything “else” to be present in a photograph to help tell it’s story.
